GETTING STARTED IN RECREATIONAL ROAD CYCLING: a 90 minute clinic for lessexperienced cyclists or those new to cycling, covering Safe Recreational Cycling, GettingStarted with Your Bike Shop, Knowing and Operating Your Bicycle. With an emphasison Safety First. At local YMCAs and other venues, generally in the Spring.
“E” RIDES: Led by experienced ride leaders, “E” rides are designed for newer or restarting novice cyclists, or those looking for a more relaxed ride. If you are unsure of your cycling ability or bouncing back from an injury, these are the place to start with rides typically 10-20 miles at an easy pace on flat to rolling roads, with stops to regroupand for snacks/bathrooms. There are usually 3 to 5 “E” rides each week during the season. Every “E” ride starts with a pre-ride checklist, review of the route and review of safe cycling behaviors. After some rides, riders optionally gather at a local restaurant for a bite.
PRE-RIDE TUTORIALS: 30 minute hands-on “teaching” before one of our “E” rides.Led by a very experienced ride leader, this is time for members new to or returning to cycling to receive some one-on- one help getting to know the basic ins and outs of bicycles and safe cycling. Provided occasionally throughout the season, usually on a Saturday or Sunday morning.
“KNOWING MY BODY AND BIKE” RIDES: These Wednesday morning “E” rides are designed for people who are just getting into biking, recovering from injury or illness or just looking for an easy ride. There will be discussion and demos before and during the ride about operating your bicycle, safe cycling, recovering from an injury or illness and other topics, tailored to the participants.
“TEACHABLE MOMENT” RIDES: These Saturday or Sunday longer “E” rides include discussion and/or demos interspersed throughout the ride at various stops, usually around operating your bicycle, safe cycling, changing a tube or other cycling basics.
BIKE STORE CLINICS: Various specialized, in-depth clinics throughout the year,including in-store presentations and on-the- road demonstrations and tutorials.
